In the back of the John Brown house sits a most interesting piece of African American history. The Black Elks owned and operated a meeting hall and music venue which saw most of the big acts of the 50’s and 60’s play there.
Kennedy Farm LLC was able to purchase from the estate of Freda Williams the 20 acres of land surrounding the house. Much work is being done to clear the land and give the area a park like appearance. Much more work is needed and funding is a priority.
Maryland Rt. 340 east and west have new signs thanks to Senator Ben Cardin. The Maryland State Highway Administration’s Cheryl Schreiber and Eric Rauser with all the hard workers on the state’s highways have made the update possible.
